A Modern Ball

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art[1] celebrated the return of its Modern Ball, the museum’s highly anticipated biennial fundraising gala on Thursday, April 30.  Held at the Yerba Buena Gardens[2], the event benefits the museum’s statewide programs, including their On the Go traveling exhibitions. The museum, which is currently closed until 2016 for massive renovation, its neighboring outdoor space into a gigantic fete with the help of event designer Stanlee Gatti. Chaired by Christine Lamond and sponsored in part by the Fisher Family, Charles Schwab and fashion house Valentino[3], the gala kicked off with an outdoor cocktail reception under a clear sky and unusually warm weather. Guests then split off into one of two directions—either the Gala Dinner or the more bohemian Supper Club—both of which were beautifully tented affairs with the cityscape serving as the perfect backdrop. All the revelers then converged at the Post-Modern Party at the top of the Metreon, where Brooklyn synth-pop duo Holy Ghost! Performed, and self-proclaimed sonic missionaries, Silent Frisco, organized a “silent disco” on the terrace. Bergerac mixologists kept glasses full for the incredibly well-dressed crowd, who danced and noshed their way through the night.
