It’s only a matter of days before stylish New Yorkers collectively pull luxe winter coats out of their closets or find themselves using the cold as an excuse to shop for new, wintery duds. Just in time for the impending chill, Italian-made outerwear brand Moncler opened its first American flagship store in the Big Apple with an event consisting of two artistic tributes to the city. Famous New York film maker Spike Lee created a short film set to music which began with Lee reciting “The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus—the poem which greets immigrants arriving at the Statue of Liberty. Stylist Thom Browne created an installation which will live in the Moncler store. Jackets designed for Browne’s American flag-themed special collection for the brand form a large scale mosaic in the retail space. Sales from the 28 unique jackets will benefit the Robin Hood Foundation.
