There are plenty of places to “see and be seen” in St. Bart’s, but Hotel Le Toiny isn’t one of them. In fact, the only people you’ll likely encounter during your stay are the ones you’re traveling with (and, of course, Le Toiny’s amazingly attentive staffers). The secluded Relais & Châteaux property on the southeastern end of the island has just 15 villas, offering a level of privacy that lures A-listers—Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt are rumored guests—though as a policy, the hotel remains hush-hush about its clientele. Each of the villas is outfitted with an oversized infinity pool and terrace, where you’ll want to take in the exquisite ocean views over breakfast. The terrace also serves as the perfect venue for an “in-room” massage at sunset—specifically the St. Barth Sun Downer, which incorporates cooling aloe and mint to calm sun burns and bug bites.
And while there’s plenty of amazing food on St. Barts, some of the island’s top cuisine can be found just steps from your villa. The on-property restaurant, Le Gaïac, serves French fare infused with local flavors and epitomizes St. Barts’ definition of fine dining: incredible food served in a decidedly un-stuffy atmosphere. Go to Le Gaïac for dinner, and your waiter will probably try to sell you on the signature Spaghetti with black truffles and fresh Parmesan, a dish that sounds far too indulgent given the island’s abundance of nude beaches. But whatever you do—you must order the spaghetti, prepared tableside. We guarantee you’ll end up dreaming about it for the remainder of your trip.

What makes it so special:
The ocean view and privacy are two characteristics our guests are usually most excited about. The property’s 15 pastel bungalows are located on a gentle slope overlooking an island lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. Each accommodation has its own gated entrance and red mailbox flag that serves as a “Do Not Disturb” sign.
The cottages are painted in a pastel mint meant to reflect St. Barts’ Caribbean style, with an interior design scheme further reflecting the heritage of the island. In one of the latest updates to the hotel, decorator Marielle De la Porte transformed the Villa Suites into a French Colonial style. Original black and white photos of St. Bart’s add a sophisticated flair and infuse each suite with a sense of the island. Bedrooms feature an authentically recreated French Colonial four–poster mahogany bed, crafted in Martinique, and draped in traditional white gauze. Crisp white textiles are coupled with 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets to adorn the bed. Each suite’s Italian tiled bathroom includes an open air shower, separate bathtub and dual sinks and bidets—all benefiting from natural light filtered through large windows.

The hotel’s private beach offers solitude and a bit of history. Once homes of early settlers, two cottages dating back to the 1600s can be found on Hôtel Le Toiny’s beach. In fact, the two cottages mark the spot where the European settlers first stepped foot on the island.
