It’s easy for an actor to fade into the background starring opposite Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, but in August: Osage County, Dermot Mulroney holds his own. In his role as Steve Huberbrecht, the fiancé of Juliette Lewis’ Karen Weston, Mulroney provides both comic relief and an uncomfortably sleazy plot line. Despite his transgressions in the film, we can’t help being enamored by the handsome Virginia native. Check out five little-known things about Mulroney below.
1.
He starred alongside Kiefer Sutherland, Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen in the 1988 film Young Guns…and posed for this incredibly dramatic press photo to promote the film.
2.
Mulroney is completely on board for a My Best Friend’s Wedding sequel. While promoting August: Osage County, he told Variety, “I want it! Julia and I talked about it recently, and she thought it would be an amazing idea.”
3.
The 50-year-old actor will play ex-CIA operative Bill Gibson in NBC’s new conspiracy thriller Crisis, premiering March 16.
4.
He’s a classically-trained cellist and has played on several film scores including Mission: Impossible, Star Trek and Hairspray.
5.
Contrary to popular belief, Dermot Mulroney is not the same person as Dylan McDermot, however the two often get confused because of their similar-sounding names. He calls it “collective dyslexia.”
