Designer and muse. The inexplicable, limitless bond between creator and flesh-and-bone inspiration is important to most designers, but few express their appreciation with the same grandeur – and innovation – as Karl Lagerfeld.

In a new Saint Moritz, Switzerland exhibit at Galerie Gmurzynska, Lagerfeld pays homage to three of his modern-day muses – Theophilus London, Aymeline Valade and Freja Beha Erichsen – with larger-than-life glass tryptichs. The featured images may look familiar (they originally appeared in the Carine Roitfeld-styled, Lagerfeld-shot book The Little Black Jacket), but have found new life in the blown-up, cropped, stylized and color-tinted pieces now on display. Per the exhibit’s very literal title, Fire Etchings, the portraits are etched onto the wall-sized, backlit glass panels with acid and fire. The exhibit is on display through March 23, 2013.
